At Peel Slowly and See, the curious music enthusiast explores new horizons; from the latest, buzzing UK-jazz groups, to crackling indietronica, intriguing ethnic music and wayward guitar-bands. Nobody leaves the festival without discovering something out of their regular musical comfort zone, including the performing artists. That’s a promise.

The Notwist

Last year, influential German band The Notwist released a surprising new album ‘Vertigo Days’. In their thirty years of existence, they’ve continuously explored the musical adventure and new sounds, from their earlier rock-oriented work, to a sound that is more influenced by eletronica, which brough them international acclaim with the album ‘Neon Golden’ in 2002.

Terzij de Horde

This groundbreaking Dutch metal act, named after a line from a poem by Hendrik Marsman, combine an amalgam of progressive black and doom metal with a rawness reminiscent of extreme hardcore or chaotic screamo.

PoiL Ueda

PoiL Ueda is a unique project of French band PoiL, and Japanese traditional vocalist and satsuma biwa player Junko Ueda. Two ends of the spectrum, the formal, stylized traditional Japanese music coming together with the open western avantgarde rock, in a way no one had ever dreamt of.

KOIKOI

KOIKOI is a new band from the vibrant Belgrade (Serbia) music scene. Their 2021-debut album, which brought them huge regional acclaim, showcases an exciting form of unorthodox pop, both really catchy, danceable and radio friendly as well as playfully loud and intense.

Pip Blom

Indie quartet around charismatic frontwoman became one of most succesful exports from The Netherlands’ blossoming Dutch guitar scene. Last year her album ‘Welcome Break’ was hailed unanimously across the world.

SMANDEM.

This four-friend-strong collective produces a sound that is deeply rooted into the jazz tradition, yet it doesn’t restrain to any style boundaries or formal etiquette. Their dynamic live-show effortlessly accelerates from lush harmonies into colourful mixtures of dense rhythms and fierce improvisation.

Nusantara Beat

Nusantara Beat is een groep met leden van onder andere Altin Gün, EUT en Jungle by Night, die zich laat inspireren door de bedwelmende muziek uit het Indonesië van de 20e eeuw. De leden zijn eerste-, tweede- en derde generatie Nederlandse Indonesiërs en spelen interpretaties op de Pop Sunda uit de jaren ’60 en ‘70. Ze noemden zich naar de te bouwen toekomstige hoofdstad van Indonesië, dus wellicht is het futuristische rootsmuziek.

SIKSA

SIKSA is Polish slang for a naive and attractive young woman. This duo consists of spoken word and punk poet Alex Freixeit and bass player Buri. Their live shows are a radical action in the form of a performance, ‘smashing the patriarchy one gig at a time’.

Luster

Six person Belgian collective meet at the crossroad where ancestral doom folk, heady dronerock and spacious pop seamlessly meet. Often repetive, always mesmerizing and evocative.

Caeso & Paulo Dantas

De Academy for Performing Arts (ACPA) van de Universiteit Leiden selecteerde de laatste jaren steevast een verrassende toevoeging aan het festivalprogramma. Dit jaar brengen Braziliaanse geluidskunstenaars Caeso (Carlos Eduardo Soares) en Paulo Dantas een geïmproviseerd electronisch werk.

Kinderen Tegen Kinderen

Roemrucht collectief *Kinderen tegen Kinderen*, dat nog op Lowlands speelde en eind 2012 (in een ramvolle LVC) afscheid nam, pakt de instrumenten eenmalig uit de wilgen. Een nieuwe generatie volwassenen kan kennis maken met een repertoire, dat tegen wil en dank tot het collectief nationaal geheugen behoort.

Dorpsstraat 3

Ongrijpbaar en licht obscuur is de muziek van Dorpsstraat 3. Balancerend tussen de post-punk en synthwave, haalt men inspiratie uit diverse genres die geografisch en chronologisch amper te rijmen zijn. Daaruit ontstaat een overtuigende, unieke draaikolk van verhalen en geluid.

This Leo Sunrise

Het Utrechtse vijftal This Leo Sunrise blinkt al bijna twintig jaar uit in duistere, atmosferische alt. folk, roots en indie en is een geliefde act uit de lokale scene. Hun laatste album stamt alweer uit 2015, maar recent zocht men het podium op met nieuw werk. Een buitenkans voor de liefhebber van meeslepende, melancholieke muziek.

Geo

Groningen-based Geo, with a few familiar faces, debuted last year with and EP full of exciting, experimental post-punk, in which the funky rhythm section pushes no wave guitar, deadpan vocals and keyboard melodies into catchy, danceable gems.

Gwyn Wurst

Alter ego of inimitable French musician Antoine Arnera. On stage he plays several keyboards, and mixes samples, drums and vocals into a virtuose, unstoppable tornado of sound and explosive frenzy. Someone mentioned gabberpolka.
